How does Google rank local search results?

Google ranks local results using three main factors, how close the business is to the searcher, how relevant it is to the search, and how prominent or well known it is online.

Prominence includes things like review count, review quality, and how many other sites mention your business. A business strong in all three areas usually beats one that is only strong in one.
